Thanks you guys, glad you enjoyed the report and pics. The Wallowas are truely magnificant, and I can't wait to get back in there. The mosquitoes were seriously like nothing I had ever seen before, unbearable, but well worth it. Hiking out the west fork was awesome as Ivan Carper Pass was one if the coolest experiences of the trip, and Minam lake is a spectacular destination in its self.

Spent some time in the Wallowas, the bugs were ferocious, the heat unbearable, but the views, well, I'll let you decide.

Day 1 - Mirror Lake via East Fork Lostine.

Day 2 - Mirror Lake to Eagle Cap summit with side trip to Moccasin Lake.

Day 3 - Loop through lakes basin.

Day 4 - Mirror Lake out via Ivan Carper Pass and Minam Lake.

I always replace the treble hook with a single barbless, and I've never had a trout swallow my spinner, just my experience.

I buy a Washington license every year, but when I travel to Idaho, Montana and Oregon, the fees can run to 20 dollars a day, for the chance that I might fish.  I understand its against the law, but so is jaywalking.

Unlike most of you who hike in the Cascades and Olympics, being from Spokane I do most of my backpacking in Idaho, Montana, and Oregon.  Non resident fishing license for even just a few days can cost an arm and a leg.  I used to pay the fees, but lately I've just been skipping the license in the hopes I don't get caught.  I always catch and release and sometimes don't even have time to fish, so buying the licence can be a waste of time and money.  What do you guys do?  And what has been your experience when approached by backcounty rangers while fishing?

Anyone out there know if the lakes basin in the Eagle Cap's has melted out?  We plan to head in the East Fork Lostine, ramble a couple of days, and then head out the West Fork Lostine. Thanks for your help.

Just wondering, are you allowed to have campfires along the Ingalls Creek Trail?

Being from Spokane and a river rat myself, the Upper Missouri sounds like the perfect ticket. What was itinerary including camps and side hikes. Awesome pictures.

Perfect timing with this trip report.  I will be taking my father, and nephew backpacking for the first time next weekend to Eightmile Lake, and I was wondering about the snow conditions on the trail and around the lake. up.gif
