To whomever jumped to the attention of us LOST NWHikers when the site went down, Id just like to thank you for your quick attention to the problem.
Ten thumbs up for you.

Basically our host upgraded to the latest version of php (the programming language our forum software is written in). Our forum software didn't play nice with it. mcaver was able to switch back to the old version of php and everything started working again.
A classic tale of computer woe! Thanks Tom and McCaver - I hope that this didn't take too huge a chunk out of your day. You guys are awesome for the work you do to keep this site up and running.
Just last week I listened to a computer language expert talk a bit about the intriguingly popular and useful mess that is php. He referenced this quote from the language's creator:
Quote:
I don’t know how to stop it, there was never any intent to write a programming language … I have absolutely no idea how to write a programming language, I just kept adding the next logical step on the way.

I'd suggest at the soonest convenience upgrading the forum software to play nice with the latest version of PHP and revert the fix. Running an obsolete version of any server side software is a recipe for disaster down the road from a security standpoint.
But glad it's working and thanks for the work!
