Cool article, Randy! I wonder if there's other peer reviewed articles out there. This one is full of malware (don't click on any of the green double-underlined links!)
Here's a blog I wrote about hair ice earlier this year during the giddy time I thought there might be hair ice to see.
Since this looks like new info, I'll add it!

I sold a couple of my hair ice photos to Harcourt, Brace, etc several years ago. They used it in a science book for a school district in Tennessee.
Also, other photos were published in Weatherwise magazine and I think, Scientific American. If I find the PDF versions, I will post a link here!

There's one article out there where the scientist thought hair ice was found only in the Olympic mountains. I discounted that article immediately; I've seen hair ice all over the place since I was a little kid.
But back to Randy's article. As recently as this past winter, the fungus was just a hypothesis, so it is exciting.
