Interesting concept from some MIT projects: getting more exposure information from camera sensors http://petapixel.com/2015/08/18/mit-created-a-camera-that-will-never-overexpose-a-photograph/

I have 11 essentials, the 10 plus an extra camera battery. http://www.flickr.com/photos/jd_hiker/ http://jdhascup.wordpress.com http://jdhascup.500px.com

Improved dynamic range has been the holy grail of camera sensors for awhile now and modern sensors are miles better than the first digital sensors but still lacking. Shooting in RAW and paying careful attention to exposure values then refining things in post processing (or exposure blending to create "HDR" images) has been the only way to do it so far. Looks like they've figured out how to overcome the shortcomings of the sensor. Very interesting.
