Some from July 8, 2004. Don't know if they'll help your cause, but here you go. I have pics from the 70's some where I'll see if I can find them.

My wife and I hiked in Christmas day. I remembered this thread so I wanted to grab a shot or two for you...
Our first glimpse of the Ice Caves. Closeup of the Ice Caves. Big Four towering over the Ice Caves. The Ice Caves snow cone pockmarked by avalanche debris. The Ice Caves.
FS has quite the mess to clean up along the trail.

Schroder your my hero! Now i know exactly where to look for it.
On the other hand that "4" is so clear i want to wonder if there was some dark room post processing at hand. Wouldn't that be something.

I remember seeing that snow patch like that only once long ago. I think it's either changed shape since then or conditions have to be perfect for it to appear.

This was I think in 2011.
This was 2012
On the trail with a friend. We did the snowshoe route, it was the first time I got to use my snowshoes and test them in deep fresh snow.

I can second this. Back in the late 90s while driving back from hiking Vesper Peak with my uncle, the number "4" was as distinct as in the posted picture. I haven't seen it like that since. I would assume it depends on a few different factors.

Cool, I went there about 10 weeks ago and there wasn't much left then. Caves gone, but trail is still closed.
