Officials at the Maritime Museum of San Diego, which sponsored the replica project, hope the fully functional San Salvador, once it takes its place among the museum's other historic ships along the Embarcadero, will "transform" the area into a nautical theme park. LA Times article

Touron is a nougat of Arabic origin made with almonds and honey or sugar, without which it would just not be Christmas in Spain.

Thanks Touron. I didn't know that. It sounds like Captain Cabrillo was sailing north to explore up to Washington state when he was turned back by foul weather. He was a brave skipper sailing on the far side of the known world.

"Every September the Cabrillo Festival Inc. hosts the Cabrillo Festival, an annual three-day celebration of his discovery of San Diego Bay, including a re-enactment of his landing at Ballast Point." Wikipedia Has anyone here been to this festival? Do they re-enact the formal act of possession?
