^ great find, Steve
well, all of those rueing the loss of a landmark named after the 25th President can always come down to Tacoma: we still have McKinley Park, McKinley Hill, and McKinley Avenue.

It seems to me it's just a feel-good story for some people that really accomplishes nothing of any real substance.
I don't care what the mountain is called. |
And on the other hand, there's no real downside either. Much ado about nothing.

Yep. And the Bismarck was a full size battleship, not one of the smaller pocket battleships (which were actually just large cruisers).

When it was built Bismark was stated to have 35,000 tonnes displacement complying with the Versailles treaty. It turned out to be 15,000 higher, unbelievingly Hitler lied.

Well of the electoral college anyways. |
Josh you must be thinking of some other president. In 2008 Obama had 53% of the popular vote vs 46% for McCain and in 2012 it was 51% for Obama vs 47% for Romney.
Perhaps you are thinking of the 2000 election where Bush had 47.9% vs Gore's 48.4% of the popular vote, but Bush had 271 electoral votes once Gore conceded the tight Florida race.
Current polls place Obama's approval rating at 46% -- a fair bit better than GW's approval rating of 33% at this point in his second term.

The low voter turnout in elections doesn't help much either

The two highest turn-out elections in US history where 1860 (81.2%) and 1876 (81.8%) where the issues were slavery and ending reconstruction.
I'm glad. that for all our troubles today, we face no issues that divisive.

You can just tell her she is named after the martyred president, after all it is better than being named Polk or Fillmore .

In the spirit of harmony, I would like to see more decisions made by super majority consensus. I think its pretty aggressive to make decisions with a slim majority. This cuts both ways.
