Tiffany 8245' Clark 7890' Rock 7971' M Tiffany 7967' On Saturday, I was able to get out in to the mountains and chose the Winthrop area again. The weather looked OK for the Tiffany Mtn area, so I headed for the Freezeout Ridge TH. I was hiking by 11am and ran into a couple other groups coming down. It was cloudy and a bit cold but at least the clouds were higher than the peaks. I reached the Tiffany summit to some good views across the valley where a couple of my other planned summits were.

Next, I headed over towards Clark Pk. A trail traversed it's West side, then off trail for 500' gain to reach the summit. I hiked back down the ridge and then was off towards Rock and Middle Tiffany. I dropped into the basin on Tiffany's East side. Many larches and fall colors as I made my way to the pass above Tiffany Lake.

I easily walked up Rock Mtn. Big grassy slopes lead the way. From there, I dropped to the saddle that lead to Middle Tiffany. Another easy walk up with wide open views. It was cold and breezy, so I didn't stop for too long. I headed back to Whistle pass and back down Freezeout Ridge. Along the way, I saw about 10 cows on the trail. I've been thinking about a steak ever since.

That's a fun area, and the larches on Tiffany and around Upper Tiffany Lake are very good, and an interesting contrast to the thick but larchless forest on Middle T and the total lack of trees on Rock. Nice wildlife sighting.

How is the road up to this area? Is there any need for 4 wheel drive?

once the pavement ends, it's a washboard. however, any car can make it, just go slow.

Are there any roads closures in the area because I plan on going there with a couple people next week?
