Haven't had trick-or-treaters for years, most people head to the city for Halloween.

The street where I live has a tradition of people creating big fancy halloween displays. PA systems with spooky sounds, over the top yard art installations, animatronics. So, people come from all over to trick or treat on a few short blocks. There are buses from who knows where... It's like the "candy cane lane" of Halloween. It's quite a bit of fun... Plus, it's considered safe- the neighborhood has a kind of throwback Leave-It-To-Beaver-Land vibe. My roomies convert the yard into a graveyard with styrofoam tombstones, creepy theatrical parephenalia and flaming tiki torches along the driveway. We handed out 1000 pieces/small bags of candy this year. It was gone by 9:30. Kids kept turning up till well after 11:00. Pretty well behaved with very few exceptions. Probably 80% escorted by parents, and even the rowdier unaccompanied teenagers are mostly just out to get their sugar buzz on.

Zero. In years past, we've had a handful; mostly kids and grandkids of friends. I live in Mount Vernon near the hospital, but we have a lot of trees and a big circular driveway. With only 4 or 5 homes on our street, the effort isn't worth the reward. I think they head to the tract homes and developments for a bigger return on their investment of energy. The hubby always buys candy biggrin.gif

I'm suspecting it was 0, since MM didn't say anything about it when I got home from a party. We never bought candy b/c when I did that for our 1st Halloween @ this house & left it in a big bowl outside (complete w/porch light on, as well as Halloween lights in various windows), it appeared to be untouched when I got home. Then I was stuck w/a huge bowl of candy....darn. wink.gif It prolly has something to do w/the neighborhood's dark, narrow windy roads that lack sidewalks, & the fact that it's sorta up on a little hill & isolated from other 'hoods. Highways flank the west & south sides, & a fairly busy road to the east. Last but not least, the house is accessible via a somewhat long, dark uphill driveway. Must be the perfect place for deterring children. hockeygrin.gif up.gif up.gif

Didn't count, but Igor says we had more victims than usual. Urp.

We had 5 parties, about 15 or 20 kids. It was a windy, wet, and generally miserable evening however. How long ago did teenagers start trick-or-treating? huh.gif I mean, I think it's kind of awkward to answer the door, and the requester for candy is the same height as you

group of five kids about 7 with parents. they each got a huge fistful. then two girls maybe 11 or 12 years old about quarter after 8. they got huge double-handfuls. and then finally just before 9 three little kids showed up with parents and I dumped the rest of the bowl into their bags. so... 8 bags of candy / 10 kids = rotten teeth and/or gut ache for sure.

Funny! I had about 35, half of last year, due to weather. The later it gets, the older the kids, it'll be really awkward when you start seeing Senior Citizens at the door!!

You must live in Capitol Hill where I live. We gave out over 1300 pieces of candy this year. Lots of kids, lots of fun. Macklemore even put in a guest appearance. ~Slim
