Thanks for sharing.... love the "Dress up" picture. That Krag Jorgensen and Broom Handle Mauser would be worth a small fortune today.

what a great find Eric. Thanks for keeping us going with great trip reports and history and pictures of NW lookouts. If you keep this up, perhaps you should consider a new book? I'd buy it.

Can anybody identify the Minion-looking thing inside the shed/crate/box structure in the first photo? It doesn't look like anything I associate with fire observation. Thanks-

Looks to me to be a hand crank telephone, most likely hooked up to the wires attached to the pole.

Wow! I love the photo of the Osborne sitting on the pile of rocks.
A great collection!

A fantastic group of pics. Thanks for scanning & posting.
Here is the Osborne pipe as it looked in 1999.....I padded up there from Martin Gap, admiring some white ceramic insulators still tacked to trees along the way.

Marvelous photos, a delight to study! Noteworthy features of this early L-4 are the three-by-three-light horizontal sash windows and gable roof, defining features of Clyde Fickes' original 1929 plan. Fickes' 1932 plan revision features vertical three-by-three-light sashes and hipped roof (for example, Dodger Point Lookout and Badger Mountain Lookout), and 1934 plan revision shows two-by-two-light sashes, found in many later lookouts.

The squirrel doesn't look too bad either.
Thanks for posting, these are very cool old pics. Gotta love the demeanor of the companion in the 2nd pic.
