I did the WT in two sections. In 2001 because of time constraints I was only able to complete half the trail. I started at Ipsut Creek (long before the Carbon Rver road was permanently closed) and hiked to Sunrise and then through Summerland and Indian Bar before ending at Ohanapecosh CG. I did not make reservations and did a walk up permit and got all the campsites I wanted. On this part I spent 2 nights at Mystic Lake so I could do a day hike up Curtis Ridge. Well worth the effort! 6 days 5 nights.
In 2003 I returned to finish the second half. I left my car at Ipsut Creek and was dropped off at Ohanapecosh so I could begin where I left off and hike to my car going through Longmire. This time was also 6 days 5 nights. This time around I had gotten a reservation and did not get the campsites I wanted, so I ended up doing a couple of long days.
If I were to do the WT again, I would most likely do the whole thing at once.
