Any of you hear of, or try this method of navigation? I think it looks quite interesting, and if it works, quite useful...*if* you knew when "solar noon" was.

We have known for some time that Vikings used sunstones for navigation. To have finally found one in a wreck puts the period at the end of the sentence. A wonderful read devoted specifically to this topic is Secrets of the Viking Navigators-How the Vikings used their amazing sunstones and other techniques to cross the open ocean by Leif K. Karlsen. You can get it here http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=18667709996&searchurl=sts%3Dt%26an%3DLeif%2520Karlsen

Thanks Mike, I just ordered it. Amazon has gently used ones too. I am mostly interested in Farley Mowat's theory of the Farfarers, a pre-Viking culture that may have crossed the Atlantic in skin covered boats. My wife and I are planning a UK tour and I'd like to see the northlands/Scotland/Outer Islands rather than the hordes of Picadilly or Stonehenge. Tom

There is a place in S Central OR where you can go find it. It's along the road between Wagontire and Plush on BLM land. Under the dark clouds on the left

They did. But they're still run as a separate entity.

How would Horatio Alger have handled this situation?
