Today we did the West Fork Miller River / Coney Creek east route of Lennox. In the past I heard you want to do this peak with snow so I thought now might be the time, but alas snow cover was not consistent until above the 4000' level. I guess there's been a lot of melt in this recent heat. We had to deal with a fair amount of slide alder, downed trees, devils club, etc.

Above 4000' travel was pleasant and Heather was kind enough to break trail for us all the way to the summit. The heat was unusual for April and we hurried to be on the way down before conditions got too sloppy.

The large Cedar near the starting gate was pretty neat in the dark and again on the way out. Overall I would say this is sort of a hassle route which would be better with more snow. The upper peak has nice views, but if you're not into prominence, you might want to pick something else.

Thanks! Is there a way to download gpx file from strava, so that I can load it up on my garmin? Also hard to see on this small map - how do I drive up to the trailhead?

One of these days, I wanna check out the mine below Coney Lake. What a great day for a hike like that. Nice shots of the peaks in the Middle Fork.

Kinda appalled I have no saved track logs for the abandon w. fork miller river road..... Having said that, google Dorthy Lake. That's the driving instructions you are after. The abandon W. Fork Miller river road is just before the bridge you cross over the, ummm errr the west fork miller. Do a U-turn and go back to the wide area you can park at (IIRC there is a green gate there), and is the location of the former W. Fork Miller campground. Anything you go after up the W. Fork Miller once you leave the road is all off trail.
Ree - The Coney is a favorite and well worth the brush bash.

When I went to the mine in the 80's it was still being worked and they had the road cleared from the Miller road for those 4-wheel ATV's. Never saw anyone, they must have cleared out for the weekend. Tents still up. Ore was loaded into 55 gallon drums with rope on the top (helicoptered out???) Interesting metal--not copper but a gun metal bluish color (Molybdenum??). They were mining sort of a crack in the wall 20 or so feet high, nothing like your pics H. Hound, but then I didn't stick around looking into everything. Maybe a different mine? It was in the valley wall to the South of the Coney lake outlet stream.

Interesting and congrats on the summit. But it confirms my plan to climb Lennox via Bear Lakes as an overnight in the fall. Then Coney Lake will be blue in a field of open granite.
