There was a 2.9 earthquake 4.4 mi. NNE of Mirrormont about half an hour ago. Felt it as a bump in Issaquah.

Not many people realize that Tiger is actually a dormant volcano. Hasn't erupted in many, many millennia, but this could be the start of the next big one.

Tiger Mountain is mostly igneous but the last eruption was in the Oligocene about 30 million years ago. In comparison the Columbia River Basalt is Miocene 15-20 million years ago and Mount Rainier only started a few hundred thousand years and has had mostly minor eruptions for the last 10,000. I think a more accurate term for Tiger is "extinct", but we can always hope wink.gif

I want a new volcano West of the Cascades in the Willapa or Capitol hills. It'd make the area much more interesting! I visited Mima Mounds today and found myself wishing the skyline was more dramatic. A big volcano towering overhead would be a great backdrop to the blue oceans of Camas....... hmmm.gif

Maybe one day West Tiger 3 will blow it's top, blow away all the trees that have grown up (where are the loggers when you need them anyway?) and open up the views again... Of course then it will probably only be about 1,000 feet high.....
