Yeah, they'l have to make it lighter before I get one. Mostly to make up for the extra weight of the microwavable popcorn I'll be carrying.

I think it's amazing that they're able to make such a small microwave with such a long-lived battery pack, but I can't see it replacing my little stove. At 200 watts it seems like it might take a long time to boil water, so that 30 minute battery life isn't going to last that long. Still, with a solar panel you'd never run out of power like you would fuel. I agree that the weight is something of a concern. I'd wait for the second or third generation.

If my calculations are correct, it would take over 15 minutes to heat 1/2 liter (about 16 oz) from 10C (about 50F) to 100C (212F) with a 200W input. Not very useful, certainly not for hiking.

As the technology continues to evolve, this type of stove will have many suitable applications. Disaster rescue/recovery is just one that comes to mind.
I hope they apply it to refrigerators. I would love a 1-lb. refrigerator for summer camping at 2nd Beach.

I do a lot of commercial multi-day rafting trips because I am lazy and like to be pampered in the wilderness. The stove/burner/grill/charcoal/gas/fondue/dutch oven/clean up equipment you can carry on a big gear boat is amazing.
Two pounds would be the matches/gas lighters/tiki lanterns they bring. FLAME ON!!!
