Together with the Nisqually Indian Tribe and Nisqually Land Trust, the Nisqually River Foundation will be throwing a work party on Thursday, June 2nd from 9:00am - 12:00pm. Join us to remove plant protection tubes on an established restoration planting on Ohop Creek. Gloves, tools and snacks will be provided. A word of caution: Wasps tend to build nests in the plant protection tubes - the nests are more common in the empty tubes so for this reason we will be leaving empty tubes in place (we'll remove those this winter) - but if you have an allergy to bee stings this event is probably not the best fit for you. Please RSVP Morgan Greene so we know how many people to expect - the site will be accessed via a brief shuttle ride Morgan Greene Nisqually River Council Program Coordinator office: (360) 438-8715 cell: (719) 351-9025 email: morgan@nisquallyriver.org This property area is my most favorite of all the NLT properties. I wish I could attend

You're invited to join us at our Red Salmon Creek protected area near DuPont for a morning of invasive species control! We will be removing non-native hawthorn tree seedlings from our McBride site. This small tree has abundant red berries that are attractive to birds and other animals, which help spread this tree into woodlands and open fields. The hawthorn have woody thorns, so be sure to wear proper work clothes! Wednesday, June 8th from 9:00am - 12:00pm RSVP for directions volunteer@nisquallylandtrust.org

This week we will be hosting our weekly work party at our Hogum Bay Protected Area near Lacey. Join us as we work to free native vegetation from the binds of invasive Himalayan blackberry! Wednesday, June 22nd from 9:00am - 12:00pm The Hogum Bay Protected Area is composed of a small coastal lagoon, adjacent nearshore area and surrounding forested uplands to the northwest of the Nisqually Delta. Intact coastal lagoons and their drainage basins are rare in the Puget Sound region and provide valuable habitat for juvenile salmonids as well as a diversity of other fish and wildlife species. We don't make it to this property very often, so this is a great opportunity to check out a new Land Trust Protected Area! RSVP volunteer@nisquallylandtrust.org

Wednesday, June 29th from 9:00am - 12:00pm Unique opportunity to start a camping trip with a bit of work with the NLT is a rarely visited property near Mt Rainier Longmire gate. This week we will be performing a variety of habitat restoration activities at our Mount Rainier Gateway Protected Area near Ashford! This is another great opportunity to visit a Protected Area that we don't make it to very often! This past winter's snow has put a major strain on some of our recent plantings, so we will be bracing trees that have been damaged by the weight of the snow. Come prepared to perform invasive species control as well! email RSVP volunteer@nisquallylandtrust.org

This week we will be at our Middle Mashel Protected Area near Eatonville. We will be pulling invasive weeds in and around a beautiful forested wetland, so muck boots are advised. This property is several miles upstream from the Town of Eatonville, where the Mashel River courses through steep cliffs and bluffs. We don't make it to this property very often, so this is your chance to see all that the Middle Mashel has to offer! Wednesday, August 3rd from 9:00am - 12:00pm RSVP volunteer@nisquallylandtrust.org

You're invited to join us at our Van Eaton protected area along the Mashel River! We will be pulling invasive Scotch broom in an old orchard at the original Van Eaton homestead. This reach of the Mashel is critical habitat for threatened Chinook salmon and steelhead trout. Performing habitat restoration along this stretch of the river helps enhance this vital habitat, and we could use your help! Wednesday, August 10th from 9:00am - 12:00pm Come get to know the joy of using a Root Jack RSVP volunteer@nisquallylandtrust.org
