Hello all: A group of three of us have made plans to to the Ptarmigan this year. We have all done roped glacier travel, mountaineering and some more technical climbing. Unfortunately, our most experienced member has had to bow out. We are still planning to do the trip, but we're hoping to enlist a 4th member with a lot of experience leading and setting up roped systems for glacier travel (and with crevasse rescue). Two of our members are taking a 3-day refresher course on glacier travel and crevasses rescue with the American Alpine Institute in June. And we are quite certain (all of us having extensive experience with cross country travel, longer treks and routefinding) that we are not in above our heads. Nonetheless, with our really experienced guy now out, we would feel better having a 4th member with some serious bona fides along for the ride. So we are seeking a fun, fit, capable, experienced glacier traveler who might be interested in joining us. We're a group of three good friends, laid back, funny and chill. Group chemistry and cohesion are important, so I'd want to meet you somewhere up in WA before the trip to make sure we'd all work out together. We plan to take at least 7-8 days and bag peaks. smell the roses. Please let me know if you are interested, and PM me with your relevant experience, a little bit about yourself, etc.

Consider bumping up your group size to six -- two rope teams of three typically have more capacity to rescue some one from a crevasse fall than two rope teams of two. A single team of four can be unwieldy and unless you get a specially long rope -- can put people too close together to stop a crevasse fall before the next member gets dragged in.

I would say that a team of four is perfectly fine. Four fit people who are all familiar with each other and communicate well and can read each other are going to move faster and more efficiently than a large, bumbling group of strangers just tossed together (e.g., any guided group ever). Spacing is fine with a 60m rope. They should have a second rope anyways so if the need arises they could also use that for any complicated rescue scenarios.

Bump. Still hoping to find a cool, laid back, sympathetic experienced glacier traveller to join our ranks.
