Any reasons (besides the obvious) to avoid buying new-in-the-box lenses from overseas through ebay/paypal?

I would think warranty. The cameras are very complex and can fail or have faults. I would get an extended warranty on the camera, although you can do this at a later date. The lens could fail, but that seems rare. Besides, if you buy a relatively inexpensive lens, that kind of invalidates the reason for a warranty. I did purchase an extended warranty for the 12-40, just because it is expensive and I use it so much. I don't have warranties on my other lenses.
