Seeking partner(s) for week long canyon trip in late winter on Tonto plateau. On trail and off. Comfort, poise with occasional considerable exposure, cactus hazards, desert conditions pretty much a requirement. Glorious views, solitude, good weather typical but not a done deal.
Trip would probably have one or two layover days for exploration, side trips. Maybe 7 miles/day load carrying, leaving time to enjoy the day. Roughly 11 hours of daylight in Feb. High about 55, low about 30 degrees on the Tonto.
Myself? Male, fit and athletic. I'm in my 60's, starting to slow down, mellow with competent companions. Veteran of 37 Grand Canyon backpack trips, all but one in winter. Wisconsin-based, I'm typically in WA in August.

I would love to, but I'm going to Tanzania for two weeks in February.

One clarification may be worthwhile re possible precip. Statistically, the bottom of the canyon gets 1" of rain for the whole month of February. So, odds are good of either no precip. for a week or one minor, nighttime 1/4".
Yes, there's a faint chance of a larger system coming through, and with good weather url's odds are we would know it was coming and could adjust nimbly. There are good basecamps available, overhangs nearby, to sit out a rain day in style if the unlikely does happen.
i.e., plan B's are so attractive that they are more like an A - than a B. And a solid rain fills the waterpockets, creating more route possibilities.

Dates would be drop in (off the rim) Feb. 10, hike out Feb. 17 or 18. I'd be in the area, on another canyon trip, the previous 10 days.

I'm withdrawing this proposal. Something is shifting in my life, a family health situation that makes it more likely that I'd need to shorten or bail on this trip. Fair chance I'll still pull the trip off but best I'm solo, able to make decisions quickly and not mess up someone else's trip.
