I know that this is an old post but I am going to try micro grinding my coffee beans. First I am going to freeze dry them and then run them through my flour mill. If it works I will let you know.
(Just curious, I thought this required expensive equipment)
The commercial stuff is expensive 10+K. But all you really need is a decent vacuum pump and a chamber able to with stand a vacuum (i.e. at least 1/2 -3/4 inch Plexiglas). You can make a trap using dry Ice (Fred Meyer sells the stuff) to trap the water vapor so it doesn't go into the pump. You can get braided vacuum type tubing (thick walled stuff) at Home Depot.
In The commercial ones, the vacuum is better but really you just need to pull the water off and you can do more containers than one.
I have had access to some over the years at work. Some were bought and never got used (great for my use though)-- others I wouldn't even think of using, due to the solvents that went through them.
