Second time up there this year for me, but first time left the camera at home (doh!). Very pleasant spring like day in early November. Gotta love it. Not many other folks up there yesterday. A little bit of snow encountered above 5,000 ft. Crusty on the north side, approaching Surprise Gap. Softer, almost slushy on south facing slopes of Surprise Mtn. As much as knee deep in a few places.
Nice photos, glad you brought your camera. Did you use Microspikes?
I had a great opportunity to see how much snow is in the backcountry on Thursday, flying over Glacier Peak and the North Cascades on my way to Germany visiting my daughter and family. Lots of snow, even on the east slope, looking very wintry for early November!
No, just booted it. Was able to punch thru the crusty snow fairly easily. The hike to Gem Lake a couple weeks ago was much more treacherous, thin veneer of ice on the rocks in many places.
