This might be the best time of year to go there. Good suggestion!

60 pounds lighter but not 60 points brighter.

Are you geocaching? My friend got locked in up there.. the guy who let us back out was friendly. The cabins up there get robbed a lot but we did not look poor enough to be robbers so I guess we got a free pass.

I learned long ago not to drive through an open gate--especially one that has a warning on it like the gate at Dow Mountain!

I know, it was quite funny.. I tried to read the sign as the driver went flying through the gate on the hill but did I not get enough time to and he was looking a the road. We had plenty of time to read it and take pictures of him and his truck locked behind the gate when we got done.. lol.gif

I took a day off today after returning from a week on the road for work. Got up with not much of a plan and ended up going here for a quick hike. I parked at the maintenance building and walked up the road, taking the west fork after about 1 mile. The road was graded recently to this point and there were cars and trucks heading up and down the main road but no one seemed to be too concerned by my presence. Too bad the trees on top obstruct the views.

This little adventure is only 5 minutes from our cabin at Lake Cushman so thought we would check it out today (2/7/16). Eric - we followed your directions and stayed to the left at the 2500 road (1 mile in). But at 1.5 miles the switchback is now gated which we strolled on through... was it gated when you hiked it in 2012? (see photo). Sadly even after bushwhacking all around the summit, no views from this mountain. But we did some extra exploring and found another road washout on an old road below the summit.
one mile in road splits, stay to the left on the 2500 road

1.5 miles in look for this gate and turn here

That gate is new. We drove right through it. No view up there, but there is a geocache at the top.

Hiked to the top today with my two girls. The snow was deep as evidenced by a previous peakbaggers snow track postholes in various places on the road. As for us, we were able to walk without sinking too much. Six and a half miles round trip, said my GPS.
