Sorry, I hoped to get this out sooner that the west slope stayed well preserved from the summit down to Lake Janus with the help of filtered clouds blocking the afternoon sun. Some wind effect off the top but easily carve-able packed powder. Turned into 8" of great near surface faceted zingy powder from 5600 ft to the lake at 4100 ft. Tree wells filled in. Deep snowpack covering small obstructions. Generally right side up snowpack with lots of well settled old powder.
We approached the traditional Burgdorfer route: Smithbrook, through Union Gap, to the PCT wrapping around the west side of Union Peak. Putting a skin track in, we stayed higher around the south and west sides of Union than we probably had to. Met a party who came through Union/Jove gap from Rainy Creek. Of note: a snowshoe track connected Union and Jove along the ridge.

We did that tour a long time ago in our leather tele boot days and it was a very fun day. As I recall we didn't fine the best place to get up and over the NW ridge of Union Peak.

That is a nice trip I snowshoed it with Steve and Matt once during a heavy snow year and it was beautiful.

I remember doing something similar to that with you and a pretty good sized group back when I first started BC skiing. I think that was my first start at dawn and ski out in the dark tour. I don't remember the exact route, but it had some of this in it. I do remember that Jack was only two or three years old and he was dead tired by the end of it and I had to wait for him.

Same general area but different tour and a descent line we don't write about on Teh Internetz.
