I've got a green REI Flash size Large that's seen moderate use. It has a few pinprick holes in the pack body and signs of abrasion in a couple of spots on the mesh external pocket. Nothing major and these can be patched / seamgripped (I'd be glad to do it for you prior to handing it over).
It also has some holes in the hydration sleeve due to rubbing (I had to carry some bricks in an adventure race and we decided to run a lengthy section, and the bricks rubbed. It doesn't affect functionality at all though.
In terms of pack fit, these are small relative to their sizing. I normally am on the larger side of "medium" for most pack brands that come in S/M/L, and the L is about right on me.
Please PM me your email address for photos, as I have technical difficulties with the NW Hiker photo interface when I'm at work (which I am now, posting instead of doing work).
This would be an ideal budget lightweight pack for your teenager.
Toddler owl pillow not included.
