I am going to Anchorage for work in a couple weeks and have one free afternoon. I want to bring my (skinny) xc skis because I understand there are groomed trails right around town. Any recommendations of where to go? I get the impression Kincaid Park is the best. What about specific trails there that are the most scenic/fun? I like advanced trails and hills. I found the Anchorage Nordic Ski Association website but info there is somewhat limited. I will have a rental car.
Yes, I know there are more ski-dedicated forums but I'm not a member of any and I'm too lazy to find one and sign up and all that.
Thanks Randy, I found that page. I was looking for some more specific, descriptive recommendations. There are a lot of different areas there, and Kincaid Park (which appears to be the biggest) has a whole big mess o' trails. I thought someone might be able to recommend a particular trail or loop as the most fun/scenic. If not, I'll just go with that map and pick something.
edit: actually, looking again, I now see why they kept the 2002 version on the site. I didn't open that one before. It has way more detail about difficulty and hills, so that is helpful.
My brother-in-law lives in Anchorage and had this to say.
"The trails are Kincaid are world class, in great shape, and close. Otherwise he should head to Hillside Park trails or the Coastal Trail"
Thanks very much! Sounds like I can't go wrong there. I'll just pick some of the hillier ones, maybe closer to the shore for views, and go. I'll post a report here if I get a chance.
