Once February rolls around, wildflowers begin to appear in mild winter areas. Years ago, I used to go search them out. All my images from back then are on Fujichrome film, and I won't have time to sort those until next winter. In the meantime, I thought I would start a new thread where folks can post images of early wildflowers. I know that the Sisyrinchium species start in mid-February in places like the Columbia River Gorge, as well as on balds on the San Juan Islands. I mentioned this on a thread somewhere here, and someone posted a gorgeous close up of a Sisyrinchium from the San Juans, but I can't find that TR.
Anyway, I would love to see where folks are finding the earliest color. The real season does not start until mid-April in the shrub-steppe, so anything before that is fair game. Hillsides of color get extra credit!

Blue-eyed Marys are the first wildflowers around here. I took this photo Feb 14 2015. It's a place I know to be early due to its protected location. Not going to happen this year. I visited Feb 14 this year and it is just starting to green up. The cold snap set things way back. Satin flowers usually show the last week in Feb. ... maybe a little late this year too.
