Camas Mountain Loop
I had been wanting to check this 3550' summit out for quite a while and a favorable forecast made this a quick access trip suited for February. The road is plowed and we followed it arcing to the left at the first junction (about 3 miles in), going straight would take you to an eventual end of the plowed road a long the South side of Camas Meadows where Little Camas Creek Rd. begins a route I have used to snowshoe to TipTop Mountain. Besides the road the surrounding area is buried with 2-3' of snow. Our goal was Camas Mountain and not the meadows so we edged out a small area along the road side. We wore gaiters and used microspikes for a short while over the plowed road which was quite icy stopping and donning snowshoes at the old gated forest road which began with 2' plus of snow. No one had been this way in quite awhile so we enjoyed the untouched snow conditions and scenery. We were on the road then off trail gaining the ridge and following it to the highest point with some nice mountain views a long the way, especially on the top where we had coffee and lunch. Unique angles of Wedge and McClellan and plenty of the usual suspects. We headed South down from the summit through some fairly open woods hitting an abandoned forest road and hiking back East to close the loop. After these months of real winter weather there looks to be a transition into Spring occurring, love the sun and fresh air. Nice roaming !
In the beginning some snow cover to start. Different angle on Wedge Mountain. Miller Looking NW from Camas summit 3550' Camas Meadows Three Brothers Clouds rolling in from the South over Mission Ridge. Camas summit area

Several of us in my ski group got caught in these rolling clouds as they came over Mission. At one point the light got so flat that we had to stop and just ease our way down the mountain.
Also, I like the looks of those spring camping spots. Keep me in mind!

Well, shucks Rob, I was just over the ridge and down from you guys. Looks like a great one.

Just down in Cashmere, at Vale Elementary. I was leading kids up the "Mountain of Literacy." We always summit.
