A fun loop hike on a sunny day in the Potholes Coulee area. We parked at the end of Ancient Lake Road... hiked a short distance and entered the Ancient Lakes coulee... then crossed over the divide and down to Dusty Lake... where we were slowed a bit by the rocks and boulders along a portion of the lake's north shoreline... then continued to hike out of the Dusty Lake coulee... eventually closing the loop portion of our hike at the mouth of the Ancient Lakes Coulee... leaving a quarter-mile to get back to our cars. 6.7 miles roundtrip, gaining 742 feet of elevation. There is no need for a parking permit where we parked at the end of Ancient Lake Road... however, according to "wildernessed", if you park up on the plateau above Dusty Lake, you are supposed to have a parking permit. Photos, trailhead directions and downloadable GPS track of our trip to Ancient Lakes and Dusty Lake. ..

"Teanaway 70" Peaks List... a guide to hiking and scrambling in the Teanaway Area. ----------------

Looks like a bigger group than you normally go out with. We were sort-of nearby on this fine day on Umtanum Ridge.

Looks like a good time was had by all. Also looks like you parked at the same TH we did a couple of weeks ago. Just before you get to the parking area there is a small low sign on the right saying it is state land and a Discovery Pass is required. On the way out we actually stopped and took a closer look at the sign because we were curious.
