I wear out several merino wool short sleeve base layers a year. They all get holes in them, mainly around the waist and back, so I presume it comes from wearing a pack?
At any rate I tried cutting the sleeve off one and using it for a neck gaiter. Perfect fit - snug and warm!

Great idea!  It's the same concept I have used to make an "infinity scarf" out of old cotton t-shirts, by cutting the arms off and using the width of the torso part of the shirt to create circular scarves.

Yea, I have a few of these.

I retired fleece pants and made them fleece shorts.

I used the leg pieces for neck gaiters.

They work great!
