The DNR broke ground on the Mount Teneriffe Trailhead Monday, Feb. 27.
The new trailhead, designed to improve access to Teneriffe, as well as the Mount Si Trail with eventual access to the CCC and Middle Fork areas planned, will include parking for more than 100 cars.
The proposed design includes preserved forested areas around the trailhead, additional evergreen trees and vegetation, and landscaped areas in the parking area to keep the natural character of the site, located in the Mount Si Natural Resources Conservation Area.
Construction hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. The construction is expected to wrap up by June 30.

Google Maps puts the new parking area .5 miles before the current Teneriffe parking and .6 miles after the Mt. Si lot.

It's gonna get busy at Kamikaze Falls after this parking lot is built. Teneriffe will quickly become the new Mailbox Peak.
To create a great new hiking opportunity from this parking lot, it would be neat to build a trail that contoured from some point on the falls trail over to the CCC Plateau. This trail would have to stay high up on the slope below Mt. Teneriffe to avoid the private land in that area. Cmon DNR you can do it!

It is probably inevitable that there will be a viewing area near the falls that is safe and railed. The recent accidents there are not a good thing.

One of the DNR grant proposals shows just such a CCC connector trail. They have continuous land ownership that passes below Teneriffe Estates. A lot of that connector could follow an old logging road that meets the Mt Si road at the top of the hairpin switchback.
I think I posted these photos elsewhere, but I don't remember for sure. They were taken on March 1 after two days of work. More background here

Hopefully more people will flock to Teneriffe and ease the up coming MiddleFork nightmare...

Sounds like true deforestation. Will it also be paved, thus adding to the hypocrisy?
What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

that connector road to si has long been used by friends of mine that like to repeat snowshoe trips in that area (they shall remain nameless)

Glad to see another new trail to relieve Mt Si. In the last several years, we got the Rattlesnake traverse, Grand Ridge and all those trails that connect up to Duthie Hill & Hazel Wolf, more connector trails on Tiger Mtn, Mt. Washington, Granite to Thompson Lake, trestles repaired/replaced on the John Wayne and probably others I'm not thinking of.
We're lucky to have all this.
I'm probably the only one here who hasn't done Teneriffe or Mailbox.

Nah, it's just a tiny step toward getting the area back to an earlier state:

Shows how environmentally friendly "hiking" is.

We are extremely lucky to have so many hiking options, Kim! And no, you're not the only one who hasn't done Mailbox or Teneriffe. I haven't done Si, either.

Yes, but by all means, the 150 yard start to the Cable Line and the 100 yard face finish on Poo Poo must be closed to "save the environment".
The self-deception and outright misinformation spewed by whomever is making these decisions to flatten tens of acres for paved parking and then close decades-old trail sections to "protect the environment" rivals the Newspeak coming out of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave on a daily basis.
So disgusted.
