Anyone got a good guess on when Chinook Pass may open? I was hoping to be able to get over for an event on June 3rd (National Trails Day?) http://www.wsdot.com/winter/passdates.htm So, who's got a guess? BTW, Back in 1974 it didn't open until after Independence Day...

About a month after Cayuse. With all the snow this year -- I think it will be after the solstice.

How long does it typically take from the time they start clearing to the time they get the road open? A month? 6 weeks? ??

I've read that they plan on it opening 'on time,' by Labor Day weekend.

Hopefully never. Haha. I like my side quiet. Sure is nice not seeing another person on weekdays besides dot this time of year. That said, I haven't been up top in a while, but know there's been slides on this side and there's +/- 6' at the Morse Creek gate. I'm going with memorial day weekend being the earliest and June 15th being the latest. Hopefully it's June 15th. They do have all the turnouts leading up to the gate free of snow on this side I did see dot hauling the blower down the other day on a low boy, so they haven't started clearing yet.

Have I offended you today?

Naches Hiker - I envy you. If I could make anywhere near the $$ I make here in Sea-town I'd love to live over there and would probably feel exactly the way you do. Must be kind of like the hordes descending once the pass opens. Found this from the Yakima Herald: http://www.yakimaherald.com/news/local/state-route-over-chinook-pass-set-to-open-on-time/article_49be3d34-1056-11e7-a08f-b7d14df8e4a5.html Looks like DOT thinks they'll have it open by Memorial Day. I hope so - have an annual guys camping trip coming up first weekend in June and we like to go up the Little Naches or Bumping Rivers.
