This morning christensent and I went up to Chair Peak with the notion of climbing it, but as we approached it became readily apparent that conditions were less than optimal. That is to say, totally sketch. So, we decided to just tour the area instead.
Although the forecast was “mostly sunny,” it turned out to be a somewhat hazy, cold, and very windy day.
Snow conditions on the approach were lousy. There was an unsupportive surface crust and lots of avy debris to skin through.
From the top of Chair Peak basin we climbed up a notch on the east ridge and then descended the north side down to Snow Lake. There was some nice powder on the north aspect, but as we skied down to the lake it became really crusty again.
Once we were down, we skinned across the lake towards the summer trail and ascended Snow Lake divide. By then the snow had softened up and was quickly turning from crust to mush. From the top of the divide we skied back down to Source Lake and then continued down the trail.
The less-than-ideal snow conditions were offset by some really awesome views.

I'm impressed you got such good photos today! That square block of snow is also pretty funny.

Looks like you had some company. Snow conditions look quite variable, as your writing indicated. But nice scenery, for sure!

I think this is in the vicinity of one of my avatar pictures (also used for the NWH favicon logo):
