Looking to outfit my kids for backpacking. They'll be 3 and 5 this year, so I think we'll be able to get several years out of the gear. So far I have 1 sleeping bag, so I need: 1 backpacking sleeping bag 2 foam sleeping pads. (I'm thinking like the old Ridgerests or the Z Lite sol, not inflatable so I can cut them down) I guess if anyone has a cool little backpack that they are looking to move I might be interested in that too, but we have some regular little packs that would probably work since we aren't going to ask them to carry much. Thanks! John

For the sleeping bag, you might check out the Eureka Grasshopper. My son is 11 and still using his. They're reasonably priced brand new - Grasshopper ~Slim

I know you said "not inflatable", but I have a few Thermosets 3/4 length self inflating pads that make a great full length pad for a kid. If you don't find something that suits you better, you could have a couple of them.

I'm not opposed to the inflatable type, but was just trying to keep it simple/cheap since kids don't necessarily need a lot of padding anyways and I could cut them down to size. A 3/4 Thermarest would probably work great! How much are you thinking for the Thermarests?

They haven't been used in years, if they will work for you, they are yours. I just went out to the garage, and it looks like I have 4 in the 3/4 size. I will keep 1, so the other 3 are available.

I've got a really nice ULA Circuit backpack that adjusts as the kid grows. My 13 year old out grew it. Barely used paid $240 for it will sell for $150. Top of the line light weight backpack that will last your kid until their are adult sized.
