Does anybody know of any snow-free in June sections of the PCT in northern CA? Was thinking of doing a section in southern CA but a shorter drive would be better? I don't mind a few patches of snow but don't want continuous snow. Thanks.

Not sure how many miles you want to do but my brother did 50 or so miles in the vicinity of Burney Falls SP in April this year with no snow. The PCT getting around Redding is low in altitude and extremely hot by the time the herd gets there. The earlier, the better unless you like 90+ degree days. I've seen pics of thru hikers sleeping under freeway overpasses during the day and hiking by headlamp at night - all night. I think it stays pretty low through the Green Trinities too.

www.postholer.com Go to the Gmaps section, pick the PCT. Use the Snow Depth or SWE overlay skin. Note that, just like with Snotel sensors, this would be a GUIDE to indicate areas that are with low snow, not an absolute. Zero on a snotel sensor isn't zero on the ground all around the sensor. Same with these maps - apparently each pixel is quite a large area and is the average....to some level. But note that I've seen obvious discrepancies where it shows no snow, no melt in areas that are obviously still covered in snow, like the summit of Mt. Whitney.

Here is a current report with satellite photos. Satellite images show extensive snow along the Pacific Crest Trail this May
