Was going through some old hiking books on Idaho, when a piece of paper fell out. It turned out to be a map of a trip I planned years ago but never did. It was an Epiphany!!! We be going to the White Cloud Wilderness next year. And the most "Beautiful" Lake in Idaho. That is if God is willing! I will be 60 next year! Will be a great late birthday present! Already know were to stay and driving requirements from our trip that-away a while back. It will be about the same time as this year's trip. Will discuss around the campfire at the Winds!

Quite a bit of competition for that title, must be a heck of a lake!

And 2 more. Everyone has their own tent and if you go more than 1 mile from camp, you take a rain jacket and a fleece top. Even if there isn't a cloud in the sky when you leave. Trust me!

Which lake is supposed to be the most beautiful? Castle? I've been to most of the lakes in the White Clouds. If I were to rank Idaho lakes (which is not something I particularly want to do) there are several in the Sawtooths I would rate over anything in the White Clouds. That is not a knock on the White Clouds in any way. It is a gorgeous area and well worth the trip. If memory serves, I believe we fished in something like 42 lakes on our 8-day trip.

gnomb,
I wore a full mosquito suit in the evenings a couple years back when Waterman and I went on a trip into the Alpine.
He told me that it is one of 2 things he is going to get after seeing me in mine, as I recall, he mentioned it was something his wife might appreciate.
Personally, I don't leave home without it.
I might add, his off trail directional skills are top-notch, best I have seen; and we were off trail a lot. It was grueling at times.

My favorite spot in the Bighorn Crags is near the outlet end of Ship Island Lake. It is beautiful and overwhelming. There are so many amazing places to go...

I've only really scratched the surface when it comes to lake bagging and hiking in Idaho, but I've seen a handful of beautiful lakes in the Sawtooths, Bighorn Crags and Seven Devils areas. Haven't been in the White Clouds. I always have trouble picking "favorite" or "best" or "prettiest" etc. in any category. Seems like it's entirely subjective anyway, so it's never going to be definitive.
