Turquoise is the unofficial name of Pt. 5945 in the Big Snow quad. It lies about 1 mile SW of Malachite. I approached it by taking the Foss trail to just before it reaches Copper Lake where a spur trail on the right leads you to the outflow for Malachite Lake. There are plenty of bleached logs jammed at the outflow to hop on to bring you to the north side of the lake. There I went NW to connect with the gentle slopes at 5200 feet where I ran the ridge to get to the saddle between 5945 and a highpoint at 5600'. Once at the saddle I went to the north side of the mountain for the final several hundred feet. There was 1 inch of snow on the heather and talus which made the slope slippery. Car to car was 7 hrs. BYO Pencil for the film canister register. I began to shiver at the top for the first time in many months. This weekend will probably be the end of the summertime types of hiking. It has been a banner summer for hiking.
