Great find Eric and thanks for posting and not keeping great sites like this a secret.
Ski, how in the heck did George get a jackhammer up there? What do you suppose powered it back then? And on his honeymoon no less....times have sure changed.

I was confused for a moment ...thought this was the Kloochman Rock in the Rimrock Lake vicinity (Tieton River drainage).
All kinds of history out there...Thanks for posting!

Two replies.
Maybe they didn't take the compressor up. Maybe Louise kept gasoline engine powered compressor fueled down a little lower, while Wilbur hammered away above. Just carry up more hose. When the compressor stops every hour or so Louise comes over, fuels engine, checks oil, puts some oil in the hose, and starts engine back up. Wilbur gets a five minute break.
And for those of a geologic bent: Why is there a Kloochman Rock?

Tabor says Kloochman Rock is black (carboniferous) sandstone. Sandstone is relatively hard and resistant to erosion, so is exposed on many of the peaks and ridges of the core Olympics.

I've had some sort of strange obsession with Kloochman Rock ever since I was a little kid in the 80s staring at the old Queets River Trail map and distance signs up at Sam's parking area. I tried to get there a few years back but only was able to get to hike into yahoo lake due to time constraints. Thanks for posting this and rekindling my need to get there.
