My wife and I are planning a thru hike from Shi Shi beach to Realto beach the week 3-8th of july. it is 32 miles total, lots of ropes and rocks to negotiate and some headlands can only be passed at low tide. I have done this one a couple times, have all kinds of maps and tips. We want someone to go north while we go south, trade keys in the middle and drive each others car back. the shuttle is 300 a head to get a ride if you don't have someone to trade cars with.
this is an incredible section of the washington coast. i've spotted orcas, deer, otters, eagles, all kinds of smaller furry critters and tide pools the whole way. Shi Shi and point of arches has been voted "the worlds most beautiful beach" several times.

One suggestion, don't "trade keys" at the mid point. Have two complete sets of keys for each party. It's all too easy to easy to miss each other.

Well -- I don't think it makes sense to run out and buy/rent a junker for just one trip.
What does make sense is to leave nothing in either vehicle and also to use a black felt pen to obscure your home address on the registration and insurance and if you have a garage door opener, leave it at home.
Another thing to do is to leave the doors unlocked and roll down the windows -- at least part way -- so would be thieves can see that they don't need to smash the window to get in.
Disconnecting the battery is an additional step to discourage thieves (and also guard against the battery being run down by accessories (or the door being left ajar)
A steering wheel lock should complete the picture to tell thieves to look elsewhere for easy pickings.

When we did this trip last year we parked at the transit center in Forks and took the 1$ bus ride to Neah Bay. From there, we hitched to the Shi Shi trailhead. Other hikers picked us up within 10 minutes. After completing the hike, we hitched from Rialto. That took a little longer.

Just saw a post by ONP on FB that they are planning on finishing the repairs in time to open the Mora road to Rialto Beach by this holiday weekend. I'll share that post over on the NWHikers FB page.

I would be interested in doing a key exchange for a shorter beach hike, something closer to 20 miles.
There is bus service to 3rd beach btw.
