Press release 06/28/17 from WDFW posted HERE It does not appear that these relocated animals are having any big issues taking up residence and proliferating in their new homes. up.gif Never knew they ate porcupines. They must be quick little devils. wink.gif

AFAIK fishers and cougars are the only natural predators of porcupines. I found part of a spinal cord and some quills from a porcie on the PCT near Milk Creek a few years ago--somebody must've eaten it. I don't know if it's a matter of being quick, it's just figuring out the trick of flipping them over so their vulnerable belly is exposed.

I have read that fishers are able to absorb quills that get into them. Never heard anything about this with cougar. The fact that they eat porkies goes a long way towards getting them a welcome on industrial forest lands. I hope one day to see them common and widespread. up.gif

Good news this. There has been a lot of effort in this re-introduction. the Olympics are perfect.

I can imagine watching a cougar kill a porcupine. I bet it would just flip it gingerly and chomp it's throat. Cats are my favorite critters.
