Got home today and the Canal was looking a wee bit on the emerald side in the bright sun. Another phytoplankton bloom like last year?

Nah. Just hungover from too many beers pumped into it from all the septic tanks.

^ not just septic systems.
lawn fertilizers. same thing that fouled up Lake Steilacoom and turned it into an algae farm.
only reason it doesn't happen at Lake Tapps is because they drain the lake at the end of each summer, otherwise it would be even worse than Lake Steilacoom with all the residential properties along the shoreline.

Hood Canal is gorgeous right now. It is another phytoplankton bloom, just like last summer that is causing the color shift. This event has nothing to do with failed septic systems or lawn fertilizer.

The bloom is starting to abate this morning. There are large streaks of Hood Canal's normal blue color returning.

Hey Brian, not sure if you were home this afternoon, but if you saw a family of four in a neon green kayak, that was us taking our new kayak out for the first time. Got it in Port Gamble on Sunday and picked it up today.

I loved it when the UW came out and blamed it on Alder pollen and logging.How much did you pay them?LOL
Putting a septic tank every 100' or less down both the north and south shores is the best thing that could have ever happened to the Hood Canal.I guess maybe the invasive Japanese oysters help counter the extra crap getting into the canal.
