Going to be out there next month, and negotiated a day away from the family to get a hike in. I'd like something within a 2 hour drive of the city. I saw Mt. Arrowsmith, but that's a bit further than I want to go, I think. What do you recommend?

Rent a bike at the Bike Pedaler, ride the Galloping Goose trail instead.

Keep Calm and Carry On? Heck No. Stay Excited and Get Outside!

This would make for a long and full day but would be my choice if I had just one hike to do. Probably a deal breaker with roughly 8 hours in the car and 10 hours of hiking though. http://www.summitpost.org/mt-albert-edward/184823

Mosey out and check out some of the Juan de Fuca Marine Trail. Explore Botany Bay at its western end.

In Victoria? My favourite is East Sooke Regional Park, about an hour or so west of the city out Highway 14 (left turn on Gillespie Road, just past the 14 Mile Pub). The coast trail is spectacular. Thetis Lake and the Durrance Lake areas are also nice - Mount Work and MacKenzie Bight two pleasant trails. The Juan de Fuca Trail is within your two hour drive, If you want to go further afield, Carmanah Walbran (our answer to the Hoh) is about three hours or so but part of the way there is on logging roads.
