That actually showed up yesterday on the evening visible satellite loops. I could see that the fire had crossed the border. The Norse Peak fire was also very active yesterday afternoon.

From the Diamond Creek Fire Inciweb Page: "Tuesday was a second day of substantial fire growth at the north and northwest ends. The fire increased by 16,196 acres, and produced significant smoke and some ash fall in the Methow Valley. The fire has burned across the border with Canada in the Peevee Creek drainage, where it has burned an estimated 300 acres." "Fire behavior on Wednesday will remain very active, with continued movement to the north and west and burning of interior islands." Fire now at 48,000+ acres and growing.

Just horrible. On deproach from Azurite yesterday, we could see the plume blowing up through all the rest of the smoke in the area. Was pretty obviously getting blown north. The Methow was horribly smoky yesterday afternoon. I know theres nothing that I can do about it, so its no use getting all worked up, but the thought of this fire being completely avoidable is absolutely infuriating.

The Pasayten fires of 2003 were devastating. Now this... what a bummer.

Oh no, this is what I was hoping not to hear... frown.gif Couldn't help but spend my lunch break reminiscing about my trip to the Billy Goat area last July. We went through Larch Pass, Whistler Basin, Park Pass, Ramon Lakes and back out again. Hard to believe that the landscape will be drastically different the next time I am there. If anyone wants to reminisce with me or has maybe come across this thread wondering what all the sad emoticons are about, here's my Flickr album from last year.

Opinions expressed here are my own.

This is getting perilously close to the Cathedral Lakes. What a loss if that place were to burn.

Friends help the miles go easier. Klahini

According to the fire map, the fire has now spread to Park Pass and is heading toward the Ashnola River. The FS has also expanded the closures: TRAIL CLOSURES EFFECTIVE AUGUST 31: All wilderness trails east of Robinson Creek Trail #478 to Andrews Creek Trail #504. Also closed are Andrews Creek Trail #504, Chewuch River Trail #510 beyond the junction with Fire Creek Trail #561, Topaz Mt. Trail #360, and Boundary Trail #533 between Teapot Dome and the junction with Middle Fork Pasayten Trail #478. ROAD CLOSURES: Eightmile Road #5130 one mile past Honeymoon Campground, Falls Creek Road #5140, Cub Creek/Ortell Creek Road #5220 east of Cub Pass, and all spur roads east of Cub Pass, Sweetgrass Butte Road 5220-100, and all of its spur roads. From inciweb: Tuesday was a second day of substantial fire growth at the north and northwest ends. The fire increased by 16,196 acres, and produced significant smoke and some ash fall in the Methow Valley. The fire has burned across the border with Canada in the Peevee Creek drainage, where it has burned an estimated 4,700 acres. Cathedral Provincial Park has been closed. Coordination with the British Columbia Ministry of Forest Land and Natural Resource Operations is ongoing. Goat Peak Lookout has been staffed for the remainder of the fire. A reconnaissance flight over Hidden Lakes reported that the cabins, which had been covered with fire wrap and protected by a sprinkler system, appear to have survived the fire. NEW TRAIL CLOSURES ARE IN EFFECT

bawl.gif Nothing to stop it going through Tungsten Mine, either. Glad I got up there when I did.

I can see the plume today from my house on Whidbey Island, perhaps 15,000 ft high
