Upper webcams at Crystal are showing snow now. Chair 6 base looks especially snowy.

Any idea of what the snow levels are up around the upper Skagit valley area--say near Newhalem? I was thinking about a hike this Saturday up to 6000' or so. I am wondering if I need microspikes, etc. Thanks, ~z

haha! wink.gif Thanks. Just that Schroder's photo of Stevens looked a little daunting so soon in the season. Not sure that elevation being shown. ~z

Here you can see all the Stevens Pass cams: https://www.stevenspass.com/site/mountain/cams . The highest one that Schroder earlier posted has melted a bit, but there is still snow. On WHC there was a photo posted from Washington Pass that showed only a dusting on the surrounding peaks: https://www.facebook.com/groups/washingtonhikersandclimbers/permalink/2195192510707084/ and also https://www.facebook.com/buzzandgus/posts/10103396757078445 Trip report from Vesper: http://www.wta.org/go-hiking/trip-reports/trip_report.2017-09-21.9524825041 Hidden Lake Lookout: https://www.facebook.com/groups/washingtonhikersandclimbers/permalink/2194676227425379/ Trip report from Spray Park: http://www.wta.org/go-hiking/trip-reports/trip_report.2017-09-20.8829992145 Mount Rainier Summerland: https://www.facebook.com/groups/washingtonhikersandclimbers/permalink/2195616867331315/ Lots of snow at Goat Rocks: https://www.facebook.com/groups/washingtonhikersandclimbers/permalink/2195675170658818/

Wow. mbravenboer. Thanks! I will check these reports and sources out. 'Really appreciate it. ~z Edit: Whoa... Vesper Lake (~5000+) has a few inches and Summerland (~5940') per MRNP: As of Tuesday afternoon there was about 7 inches of new snow at Summerland and about 1+ feet of snow up at Panhandle Gap. Could be slippery up there. Hmmm. Probably time for gaiters and microspikes above 5000'. Definitely layers, hat and gloves. Summer one week and early winter the next. rolleyes.gif

Anybody have a picture or report from the Mt Baker/542 area? Can't seem to find any and headed up there this weekend. Thanks.

I was taking down fire restriction signs in a foot of snow yesterday in Idaho.

Have I offended you today?

For those with more experience in the North Cascades National Park than I do - any chance of the new snow between 5000' and 6500' disappearing by the end of the month with the incoming warmer weather, or is it here to stay? (I ask because I'd planned a hike at the end of the month around Berdeen that has a short section over a small glacier, but with end-of-season conditions I'm not sure I'd want to do that if there's fresh snow as well, even with crampons and axes). Thanks from a BC boy!

Stevens was very good last couple days, but Mt Baker is where its at. Report of 9' in 1 week!

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,I took the one less traveled by. And that has made all the difference. Robert Frost

A mere four inches in the Okanogan Valley. It was just right for the Yooper scooper

What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities
