I wanted to climb South Sister during my vacation, but first there was smoke, then there was cold, and now there is snow. But how much? Too much? I am not equipped to walk through deep snow. Will South Sister be doable this coming weekend, or how long will it take? What about other peaks like Diamond Peak or Broken Top? How would you assess the situation?
We just got a piciture from relatives showing maybe a foot of snow at Santiago Pass near Sisters. South Suster is well above that so probably a couple feet on top, it may melt. Probably enough to slow you down but not enough to ski or snowshoe.

The snow won't melt by this weekend, when the high temps will just be breaking 40. Supposed to get into mid 50s next week so if the sun stays out it could melt in a week or two.
The Northwest Avalanche Center shows 2.6" of water at Paradise and 6.2" at Mt. Hood Meadows at 6500'. Multiply by ten for snowfall at higher elevations. The Timberline snow gauge at 6200' shows 25" total snow.
Mount Hood surely got much more snow than South Sister. But I realize that this weekend is too early for a climb. I guess by the middle of next week conditions should be fine. But then I am gone haha. It wasn't to be this time, Sister.
