Facebook post about why it's a bad idea to hang your hammock on Joshua Trees in the national park. Important info for all you hammock lovers out there. Choose your trees carefully.
FWIW: I was in the Redwoods recently: The NPS campgrounds had a ban on not only hammock hanging, but also tying anything onto the trees -- including a clothesline. Not that I had the 100ft+ of cord that would be needed to hang anything between those giant trees.
Those Joshua trees are ancient and slow growing. Best policy for those has to be look, but don't touch.
I use an air mattress in my hammock to insulate my butt from the cold. This also allows comfortable sleeping when there are no suitable trees.
