Agree with Malachai - my favorite place in Washington as well.
How was the ascent up Wiley ridge? Any ground hornets?

Thank you and likewise! thankfully you knew that the Access camp site was taken... so we could make appropriate alternate plans.. and that was bivying on the little bench below the upper Access Cr gully and above the valley floor... it would not have been convenient to find a tent at that creek site lol...
that night at our bivy we awoke to voices!! We unzipped our tent and had a bit of entertainment as we watched 2 people come down that gully with headlamps..
Did you get some pics off Luna as well?

Well.. with full packs it is as DIYSteve says a big ass price of admission.. we went straight south from the shelter.. straight up the timber to a small bench near the ridge.. winding our way to avoid the cliff bands.. then up to the ridge and up.. 3200'.. We did see hornets but no stings..
We traversed the ridge for a ways but it was narrow technical and slow.. so we dropped down a gully into a basin on the Luna Cr side and contoured around till we found this amazing camp site with flowing garden-like pools and descent views..

Glad to hear there were no stings!
My wife and I followed almost exactly the same route you did in a driving rainstorm and the sun emerged above the clouds just as we made it to that narrow ridge. We spent a day pretty close to your camp with our lines stretched out drying out all our clothes.
Hope you had fun!

That's a serene spot. I camped there in 1993 and with a different party in 2002. It's on my list of all-time top 10 camps.
