Nice pics and cool colors Nancy Ann!
I ventured to the very end of the road in the Northern Selkirks today, fall colors are coming on.

Nice to see a trip report from you, CJ!
I found some spectacular fall colors east of Stevens Pass on a short afternoon trip on Wednesday, what a beautiful day!

And again on Friday, despite light rain, lovely colors just a little further down Nason Ridge.

Happy Lake Ridge Loop trail, ONP, 30 Sept 2017
The weather was wet, very wet, at times. The clouds briefly dropped wet snow flakes. The fall colors were luxuriant, vibrant, a feast for the eyes, especially with the overcast light! The luminous reds, yellows and oranges contrasted nicely against the deep wet shades of evergreen.
I ran into only one other group of three hikers doing the loop counter-clockwise (this must have been them). I briefly took the sidetrail towards Aurora Ridge, stopping just below Lizard Head Peak, and also went down to Happy Lake (this completed my trail-bagging of the Aurora Ridge and Olympic Hot Springs region trails, I missed these the first time I was up here). Total loop was ~20 miles with the side trips, last 7 miles of which was with boots full of water! It was good to enjoy the rain again!
new bridge across Crystal Creek Boulder Lake mucho wet, an umbrella works nicely! practically a burning bush, minus speech emanating from it.... some blowdown along the side trail over to Aurora Ridge just below Lizard Head Peak (this is about where you leave the trail to head NE up to the top)
A few other pictures are posted here.

Fall colors at Twisp Pass were very nice on Saturday. Not many people are despite pretty decent weather.

On the PCT north of Hart's Pass on Sunday. We planned to do a larchy hike to Grasshopper Pass, but the snow was coming down pretty good so we stopped at Hart's and just hiked the PCT there. We saw some thru hikers still making their way north--I always feel for them this time of year.

^ excellent. looks like there's a possibility that Friday might be clear out there on the west side.... maybe I'll go try to find something like that.

Blue Lake 10/5
Sunrise over the Stilly valley. It was a very long drive, but worth it. Low on the trail, dense forest. All of the Cascades look like this. Cutthroat. Blue Lake. Climbers trail.

Wanted to take advantage of the nice weather yesterday, so did a quick twofer w/ Lake 22 and Heather Lake. I don't think I've done those in fall. Lake 22 in particular surprised me w/ the color. Several big maples in the rock slide area about halfway up, and color all around the lake, which was nicely reflected on the lake surface from almost any vantage point. I'm not sure that I've ever been there on a sunny day when it was completely melted out before. The lake is a lovely blue green when the light is hitting it, not sure that I've gotten to see that before. Tiny bit of snow on the cliffs above the lake, but not a trace anywhere along the trail. I heard pika squeaks almost constantly all the way around the lake. Yet another bit of anecdotal evidence that pikas are not all disappearing and in fact are thriving in some areas way below the alpine zone, just like I keep saying (not sure of the exact elevation of the lake but trail descriptions say the high point of the hike is 2400 ft).

Beatiful image
Underappreciated area. Fine by me though.
Reminds me of, ( not necessarily the landscape ) Paddy-Go-Easy Pass & Sprite Lake. And a couple of others
2 easy access trailheads, relatively short hikes and beautiful scenery, but yet, in comparison, very few annual visitors.
Shoulder shrug

Enjoy it while it lasts. Seemingly every year there are a couple of "cool" hikes on WTA that see TR after TR after TR, some of which may have previously been fairly obscure and rarely visited. It really wasn't that long ago, I remember when trails like Hidden Lake LO,Gothic Basin, Blanca Lake, Navaho Pass, Ingalls Pass/Lake, Yellow Aster Butte, Tuck and Robin Lakes weren't overrun.
