wolffie's last post got me pokin' around and I found this gem:
of course, should you decide you just can't get enough of Billy Thorpe:
(best cover of "Be Bop A Lula" ever!)
"I shall wear white flannel trousers, and walk upon the beach.
I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each."

Got a Bob Wills CD for a buck at Goodwill, damn they were a tight band with a great sound.

I had heard a few lines of this song on the radio today and tonight I found it on YouTube. Here's "Wheat Kings" by the Tragically Hip. Check this thread out here regarding the lead singer's death last night. He was very much loved throughout Canada. This video is a little strange and the lyrics are a bit odd, but the sound, the sound is powerful and moving. The lyrics are on this YouTube page. ~z

Must...have...First Aid Kit with Emmylou Incredible talent from a couple of young singers from Sweden smitten with American folk/country music...in the presence of Emmylou, no less. (just kind of an icon.) I also love their song, It's a Shame
"These are the places you will find me hiding'...These are the places I will always go."
(Down in the Valley by The Head and The Heart)
"Sometimes you're happy. Sometimes you cry.
Half of me is ocean. Half of me is sky."
(Thanks, Tom Petty)

This reminds me of the Moody Blues--deep and sonorous. Waking Light by Beck from his Grammy award winning album--Morning Phase. ~z

Just heard this Ambient track via Frisky Chill radio. Excellent. It's a recent album from Cosmic Replicant. I really appreciate it being published on YouTube, though the ending got cut it seems. Still nice. Some Progressive Trance for your morning. ~z

Digging through boxes of old vinyl records today I discovered Jethro Tull for the first time - I'm kind of shocked to have never heard this guy before! I love the unusual combination of instruments, and the lyrics are wonderful - it seems to me like what you'd get if you modernized medieval ballads.

Just stumbled onto this tonight. Not big on Christmas carols and such, but this rendition of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman" is awesome! First of all it's starring Annie Lennox in several roles. The rhythm feels ancient and Celtic to me. The video art direction and styling is creative and inspiring. Very pagan quality--especially at the end. This is from her A Christmas Cornucopia Album released in November, 2010. Fun fact: Annie Lennox was born on Christmas Day. ~z

Here's some Progressive Trance that warms, envelops and transports. Great rhythm. Awesome beats.

Just got Brandi Carlile's latest cd from the library. Her previous several records were really hit and miss for me. This seems to hearken back to her earlier stuff, which I really liked. Here's the first track, a live version she did in a radio studio. One of a kind voice, and a local product (Maple Valley or Black Diamond, somewhere in that vicinity). And yes, the guitar players are twins.
