Went up Granite Mountain yesterday. In case maybe somebody wants something close that still might be worthwhile. Only two other cars in parking lot at about 7:30AM but a lot more on return around 3:30PM and lots of people heading up.
Very pretty. Colors still nice but basin covered in snow to hide some of the color (only 2-3 inches and was melting), but microspikes were useful on last 1/4 mile especially coming down. The lookout was dripping from melting snow which made sitting under along the edges not a good option. Temps were probably in the low/mid 40's around noon at the summit and sunny with zero wind. What more can you ask for in October...
A few phone pictures. Haven't downloaded off real camera.
Sunrise from North Bend on way to Granite Mountain.
Granite Mountain top in the sun with snow from I-90.
