Regarding paying more for the premium seats with more room. In my experience the larger people tend to buy these seats, so you tend to be stuck in there and may not end up with more room after all if you get someone oversized next to you which there seems to be a good chance. Maybe I've just been unlucky the few times I've tried this... In my older age I've pretty much decided if traveling alone it's first class or bust unless it's a short flight, but for coast to coast or longer, definitely. I even got lucky on a recent light back from Washington DC, had a first class isle seat and the window seat was empty... Now that's the way to go.. lol...
